Take the guess work out of tuning your rigging: Loose rigging reduces sailing performance and puts damaging shock loads on the rigging and hull; excessively tight rigging strains the hull and the rig components.

Loos tension gauges provide the basis for accurate and repeatable tuning of boat standing rigging.

The gauges are simple to use and ruggedly constructed to provide years of service.

The Loos Professional model gauges can be left on the wire for hands-free adjustment of the cable tension and are more accurate than the Standard model. The Professional model is accurate to 3% at mid-range whilst the Standard model is accurate to 5% at mid-range. The Professional model gauges are Dyform® wire compatible.

The scale reading can be converted to the actual tension in kilograms by reference to the calibration table attached to the gauge body.

Most leading sailmakers give rig tuning advice when supplying sails for one design classes, to ensure that the sail shape is as designed. The almost universal guide is the Loos Model A or B gauge. The Professional models include a conversion chart so that sailors can enjoy the convenience and accuracy of the Professional model whilst using these Standard gauge settings.

We also offer model RT-10 and RT-11 gauges for tuning rod rigging.

Standard Type A (91M) covers wire sizes 2.5mm, 3mm and 4mm

Standard Type B (90M) covers wire sizes 5mm, 6mm and 7mm

Pro PT- 1 M, covers wire diameters 2.5mm, 3mm and 4mm.

Pro PT- 2 M, covers wire diameters 5mm, 6mm and 7mm.

Note that the PT2M tension gauge measures to a maximum of 620 kg. This represents 14% of the breaking strain on some types of high grade 7mm rigging wire. Some rigs will require higher tension than this. For higher tensions you should select the PT3M.
